Positioning before campaigns
Why the most expensive marketing mistake is buying attention for a message that has not been decided yet.

The symptom
Campaign performance plateaus. Creative gets refreshed, budgets shift between channels, and the numbers stay flat. The usual conclusion is that the channel is saturated. Usually the channel is fine — the message is interchangeable.
What positioning actually decides
Positioning is not a tagline. It is a set of decisions: who the offer is for, what it replaces, what it deliberately does not do, and what makes that credible. Every one of those decisions removes options, which is precisely what makes creative work easier afterwards.
A practical sequence
Audit what customers already say about you. Identify the one claim you can make that a competitor cannot copy by Friday. Write the offer in a single sentence a salesperson would actually use. Only then brief the campaign.
How to know it worked
Sales conversations get shorter. Objections repeat instead of surprising you. And your creative team stops asking what the campaign is about.
